Fling: Oversized Animal Art

fling  (flng) noun: a short period of unrestrained pursuit of one’s wishes or desires.

Lately, I’m really feeling large, over sized, black and white animal art.  They’re such a statement!  Here are a few of my favorites:

couch with oversized animal artI think the spot above our love sofa would be a perfect candidate for a large black and white animal print!  Doesn’t this lama just make you smile : ]  I think a large animal print in conjunction with the cowhide rug in our living room might be animal overload though.  It’d be neat to snap a photo of an animal and have it printed as an engineer print (you know, those really large black and white posters you can have printed at Kinko’s).

How do you feel about animal prints?  Yay or neighhhh?  Hehe.  I think this may be the only way my husband let’s me bring another animal into our home :P

Fling: Fuzzies for Farrow and Ball

fling  (flng) noun: a short period of unrestrained pursuit of one’s wishes or desires.

A fling doesn’t last for years and years so I’m upgrading my feelings towards Farrow and Ball from fling to serious love interest ; ]  Back in ’04 (while still in my college years) I was flipping through the pages of some home design shelter magazine and came across rooms painted with Farrow and Ball paint.  farrow and ball tear bookI quickly tore out the sheets and taped them into my idea book.  I never knew I could feel this way about paint!  It was like discovering truffles after eating mushrooms for a lifetime—it was a whole new level of awesomeness!

Hands down my favorite Farrow and Ball paint colours (they’re a British company after all) are their blue greens.  Pure perfection.

(source)

I’m also a big fan of their barely there blues.  I think that’s a hard color to get right (I’ve tried and wound up with a baby blue).

(source)

Their black blues are also spot on.

(source)

And their wallpapers are divine!

(source)

I’m sure you’ve come across their lotus wallpaper in some shape or form.

(source)

One of my blogging friends tipped me off that Farrow and Ball gives away free wallpaper samples along with a few other goodies so of course I took advantage of the opportunity to have a little piece of something I could otherwise probably never afford (one gallon of paints runs for about $100).free farrow and ballinspiration and color guide and wallpaper samplesI got my five free wallpaper samples, a color card, and an inspiration brochure and boy was I one happy camper!  The wallpapers are simply stunning and unlike anything I’ve ever seen before—you can feel and see the painted pattern sitting atop the paper!  They truly are a work of art.

I already have at least one project planned with my wallpaper samples for the bedroom but I’m curious, What would you do with a wallpaper sample?  Would you be willing to dish out $100 to try this paint?

Fling: Heart Shaped Florals

fling  (flng) noun: a short period of unrestrained pursuit of one’s wishes or desires.

(source)

I’m not a floral person. But when 7th House from the Left created this kitchen mood board inspired by a Rifle Paper Co. print, a little spot in my heart was created for these sweet heart shaped floral prints.

(source)

Maybe it has something to do with spring being in the air, but I just think these prints are the sweetest things ever!

Fling: Corky Details

Thank you: A special thank you to Jenny of sugarshellandbutterknife for nominating Brave New Home for the Liebster Blog Award!

fling  (flng) noun: a short period of unrestrained pursuit of one’s wishes or desires.

Cork is a great sustainable resource.  I particularly love how natural and no-fuss it is.  I recently used a cork board to display my son’s art and it sort of reminded me of how versatile the stuff is.  Super easy to cut and paint on!

(source)

I am seriously smitten with cork desks.  They are just so handsome and unique.  I think I just might have to start saving for one.

(source)

Dark cork is particularly sophisticated (anyone else recognize this image from Domino mag?  Me too!).

(source)

Cork is an obvious choice for kitchen related goods for its absorbancy.

Here are my ideas of what I’d do with a roll of cork:

That’s just cork rolled around an empty can!

Do you use cork in your home?  Have you found any other interesting uses for it?

Fling: So Fresh and So Clean, Clean

fling  (flng) noun: a short period of unrestrained pursuit of one’s wishes or desires.

I know emerald is Pantone’s color of the year but surprisingly, and I say surprisingly because I love jewel tones, I am not a fan.  Even more surprisingly, I’m a big fan of greens in general.  The green I’m currently crushing on is mint.shades of mintI believe mint was on the scene in the ’50s so there’s definitely an element of nostalgia to this color.  I love how delicate and feminine it is.  I think my favorite pairings though include some bolder colors and more modern fabrics and shapes to help balance this nod from yesteryear.

My favorite mint pairings are mint with ochre, mint with gold (classic), and mint with crimson.  To see all my minty pinspiration, hop on over to my Mint board.

Have you decorated with mint in your home?  Would you consider it?  What are you favorite mint color combinations?
